Photography & Sound Exhibition
RÉSONANCES – an immersive experience
Between the visible and the audible, this exhibition explores our perceptions and encourages
reflection on disability and the subjectivity of sensory experience.

The exhibition Resonances, presents a unique collaboration between four artists and two
forms of expression: photography and music. It traces the journey of a composer with a
disability during his trip to Tallinn, where he created a musical work with one of the world’s
most renowned choirs. The photographs capture key moments of the journey: human and
cultural encounters, creative bursts, and personal breakthroughs. They also question the
relationship between the observer and the observed, offering a reflection on the realities of
disability.
The images serve as the starting point, while the musicians create a “visual sonority” from
concrete sounds, classical instruments, and electronic elements. The original sound creations
accompanying the photographs were developed in two phases: a first phase of sound
collection occurred alongside the image capture during the residency. These recordings were
then sorted, selected, and used as raw material for the musical compositions. This hybrid
process blends sonic and visual imagination, questioning our perceptions and offering an
alternative reading of the initial interpretation.
“Venture through visual and auditory landscapes that interact, offering a reimagined view
of reality”
Each photograph is paired with an original musical creation. you are invited to explore a
sono-visualisation: a synthesis of image and sound that deepens sensory perception.
The genesis of the project: A longstanding artistic collaboration
The artistic residency project in Tallinn is part of a longstanding collaboration between the
Estonian Philharmonic Chamber Choir and the European Polyphony Festival, supported by
the Arts Spontanés (Paris) and Ars Artis (Rhodes) associations.
This partnership, founded on a shared vision of contemporary artistic creation and
intercultural dialogue, naturally led to the implementation of the multidisciplinary project
Rhodes–Reval, launched in Tallinn in 2024. Designed as a space for artistic exchange,
research, and experimentation, it brings together artists from France, Greece, and Estonia,
fostering intercultural dialogue through art.
As part of this first edition, Savvas Karantzias composed the work KATHARSIS, written for
mixed choir, percussion, and solo violin. Emotionally strong…highlighting the human soul,
this contemporary mass, brings the Estonian and Greek sound worlds together harmoniously.
It was premiered in Rhodes on October 6, 2024, and presented in Tallinn on November 23,
2024. KATHARSIS is dedicated to Arvo Pärt and Veljo Tormis, the Estonian Philharmonic
Chamber Choir, and Tõnu Kaljuste.
This project was realized as part of the European program Culture Moves Europe, supported by the
European Union and the Goethe-Institut, during a residency in Tallinn (Estonia) in November 2024.
