From 27 to 30 January, Art Music Denmark, an organisation supporting creative professionals in Danish contemporary music, classical and sound art, will organise the cultural and social programme during the Royal Couple’s state visit, taking place in Estonia and Lithuania.

Art Music Denmark works to promote and support Danish art music—and not without reason. Art music can serve as a meeting point where we come together around both our differences and our shared values. In this way, music also plays an important role in our societies and communities— nationally as well as internationally — and can make a significant contribution to social cohesion.

Art Music Denmark is responsible for the cultural and social content of the visits when the Royal Couple undertake their state visit to Estonia and Lithuania. During both visits, Art Music Denmark is the main organiser for the networking events under the title “Song & Identity.”

In Estonia the event takes place in collaboration with the Estonian Composers’ Union and the Estonian Philharmonic Chamber Choir.

The networking event will feature a short musical introduction and a panel discussion with participants from both Denmark and the local region, exploring how song — as a cultural and political form of expression — has shaped social values and a sense of community in both Denmark and the Baltic countries. The panel discussion in Tallinn at Kultuurikatel will include Esper Linnamägi, Managing Director of the Estonian Philharmonic Chamber Choir; Märt-Matis Lill, Chairman of the Estonian Composers’ Union; and conductor of DUVE, Poul Emborg. The discussion will be moderated by Ole Mølgaard.

The main organiser of the events in Tallinn and Vilnius is Art Music Denmark, with DUVE – The Young Vocal Ensemble as co-host. Estonian partners are the Estonian Composers’ Union (ECU) and the Estonian Philharmonic Chamber Choir (EPCC). In Lithuania, the co-host is the Lithuanian Composers’ Union. Both events are held in close collaboration with the Danish Cultural Institute and the Danish embassies in Estonia and Lithuania.

Attendance is by prior registration only. Registration for the Tallinn event on 27 January from 16:00–17:30 at the Kultuurikatel Tower can be completed via the provided link. The registration deadline is 21 January. Only a limited number of places are available.
