Alfred Schnittke’s „Choir Concerto“ (1984/85) is definitely one of the choral masterpieces of the 20th century. It is based on the “Book of Lamentations” by Gregor of Narek, an Armenian poet of the 10th century. It is accompanied by the Arvo Pärt’s “Sieben Magnificat-Antiphonen“ (1988), which are seven antiphons sung in the Roman Catholic liturgy during Evening Prayer on the seven days leading up to Christmas Eve.
