Reputed German weekly newspaper DIE ZEIT has chosen Erkki-Sven Tüür’s CD „Awakening“ among the Best CD releases of 2011.

Music journalist Burkhard Schäfer mentions “this exciting music for choir and orchestra from Estonia, by one of the most fascinating composers of today.” There were six classical CDs among the online magazine’s Best of 2011 selection.

Tüür’s CD includes Awakening (2011) for mixed choir and chamber orchestra, The Wanderer’s Evening Song (2001) for mixed choir a cappella and Insula deserta (1989) for string orchestra.

The performers are Estonian Philharmonic Chamber Choir and Sinfonietta Riga under the conductor Daniel Reuss.

CD was released in October 2011 by Ondine.
