From 7 to 9 February the EPCC, the Tallinn Chamber Orchestra, Anja Lechner (cello, Germany), jazz vocalist Kadri Voorand and the conductor Tõnu Kaljuste record Tõnu Kõrvits’ music for the CD that will be released by ECM.

The program includes: Song for cello and strings (2012/2013) and Reflections of the Level Land for cello and mixed choir (2013), Seven Dreams of Seven Birds (2009) for cello, choir and strings, Labyrinths for string orchestra, arrangements of Veljo Tormis’s works Song of the Level Land for voice, kannel and strings and The Last Ship for male choir, bass drum and strings.

 

The music by Tõnu Kõrvits (s. 1969) has been described as poetic and visionary music, hypnotic journeys through the landscapes of nature and folk tradition, human soul and subconscious. He has written in many different genres. The EPCC has performed and recorded his music before, One of the most popular works has been „The Kreek’s Notebook“.

 

In the cooperation of the EPCC, Tõnu Kaljuste and ECM eight CDs with music by Arvo Pärt, Veljo Tormis and Erkki-Sven Tüür have been released before.
