{"id":14761,"date":"2019-02-04T11:54:42","date_gmt":"2019-02-04T09:54:42","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.epcc.ee\/?p=14761"},"modified":"2019-02-06T11:59:48","modified_gmt":"2019-02-06T09:59:48","slug":"from-bach-to-beijing-with-love-from-east","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.epcc.ee\/en\/2019\/02\/from-bach-to-beijing-with-love-from-east\/","title":{"rendered":"From Bach to Beijing, with love from east"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The Australian Chamber\u00a0Orchestra launched its 2019\u00a0season by pairing with the Estonian Philharmonic Chamber\u00a0Choir in a program interleaving\u00a0the glorious contrapuntal richness\u00a0of Bach\u2019s motets with the austere\u00a0simplicity of Estonia\u2019s most wellknown\u00a0composer Arvo Part.<br \/>\nBach\u2019s motets are all ostensibly\u00a0written for double choir alone, but\u00a0the survival of a set of instrumental\u00a0parts by Bach for the second\u00a0motet, Der Geist hilft unser\u00a0Schwachheit auf, BWV226,\u00a0suggests the practice adopted in\u00a0this performance of adding\u00a0instruments to the vocal lines was\u00a0also followed by Bach at least on\u00a0occasion.<br \/>\nStanding on opposite sides of the\u00a0stage with the ACO seated in\u00a0between, the Estonian\u00a0Philharmonic wove these<br \/>\nimmaculately intricate polyphonic\u00a0fabrics with unmannered clarity\u00a0and purity of line and tone to\u00a0create a texture whose complexity\u00a0hovered beyond one\u2019s capacity\u00a0grasp it all at once.
